I stand for environmental protection and enhancing our freshwater quality. Nature offers cheaper and more effective flood protection than the approach of building and maintaining expensive flood infrastructure. We can achieve this through programmes to create room for rivers, using nature to store and slow down water, reducing flood risk. Much of the Kāpiti Coast is built on historic dune wetlands and we need to work with our environment, it is cheaper and more sustainable.
We need a reliable and frequent rail network, it is getting close but there’s more work to do. Public transport is part of a modern community which enables people to participate in society and supports our economic activities. Reliability and frequency alongside good route design ensures we can get around our community in the face of continued growth and traffic pressure. Multi-model travel options that include bus and train options, ensure everyone can travel for work, social, health, shopping, and study. When more people use public transport we leave more space on our roads for people that need it.
Councils need to work with communities, focusing on relationships and engagement to ensure we build our collective vision and understanding and using local knowledge to inform our long term thinking and decision making. I have a proven track record of working with communities to get good outcomes that have wide support.
Who I am

I grew up in Raumati South, attending Raumati South Primary School and Kāpiti College. Working in the IT industry for 20 years led me overseas before settling in Wellington. As my children became school age we made the move to Horowhenua where I have resided for the last 15 years.
Returning to Kāpiti in 2024 I have been building connections with communities advocating and working for our environment. I’m proud to be part of this community to help shape our future together.
Council Experience
During the past 6 years as an elected Councillor on Horizons Regional Council, I have advocated for our local water bodies and especially for Lake Horowhenua and the Manawatū River. These issues are transferable to Kāpiti as many of our local waterways are under pressure from the urban environment and rural land uses. We face challenges with flooding from our rivers and streams, and the costs to protect our communities with more infrastructure continues to climb
I held the position of chairing the Regional Passenger Transport Committee which oversees the monitoring of public transport services and works with the community to introduce new services. Together we have doubled the bus network in Palmerston North, and seen passenger numbers increase dramatically to over 1 million per year. In Whanganui we have moved the dial with Te Ngaru / The Tide running every 20 minutes through the city and more than doubling the number of people using the bus network. I have been actively involved in bringing a bus network to Levin and the Horowhenua communities providing much needed public transport options for a community that has almost no existing services.

Working With Community

Working with the community ‘in place’ is critical to success, I have been a part of this many times. Success is built with local knowledge and local people coming together to support positive change alongside Iwi, community organisations, and councils. Joint decision making requires investing in relationships and being clear on the desired outcomes and objectives.
Councils have specific legislation to follow and processes that must be adhered with. I know how the Council’s systems work and how to ensure successful outcomes. Alongside my community collaboration skills and experience I can be effective at Greater Wellington from day one.
My Journey To Politics

Camping on the Rangitikei River at Vinegar Hill / Putai Ngahere as a child, I was shocked to return years later as an adult with my own children and to find algae prolific in the river. This set me on a journey learning about the degradation of our rivers and led me to deciding to stand for election at Horizons Regional Council where I could help protect and enhance nature.
